Open roles

Where you would fit

Mid-Level Developer — Treasury Systems

Position open
Johannesburg · hybrid / client siteEmployee or associate, linked to client engagements

Build and extend the systems banks and corporate treasuries run on: customisations, integrations, trade and market-data feeds, reports, and the AI tools around them. You'd work on client projects and on MATUNOS's own products, with the director as your senior reviewer.

What you'll do

  • Design, build and test extensions to treasury and trading platforms (Calypso, Murex or similar): workflows, scheduled tasks, reports, and trade and market-data interfaces.
  • Build and maintain the links between the trading platform and the bank's other systems: payments and SWIFT, the general ledger, risk and market data.
  • Write and tune SQL against large trade, position and market-data databases, for reconciliations, data fixes and reporting.
  • Build internal tools and automation, including tools built on large language models for analysis, testing and support, and verify what they produce.
  • Turn analysts' requirements into working, documented code, and explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Review code, write unit and regression tests, support releases, and investigate production issues with the client's operations team.

You have

  • A degree in computer science, IT, information systems, software engineering or similar.
  • 3+ years of professional software development.
  • Strong in at least one of Java, C# or Python. Java is preferred, because most treasury platforms (Calypso included) are built on it.
  • Solid SQL (Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase or PostgreSQL) and relational data modelling.
  • Git, automated testing, and the Linux/Unix command line.
  • Experience in banking, treasury or capital markets. If you don't have it, a real interest in financial markets and instruments (FX, money markets, bonds, derivatives) and the will to learn them.
  • The right to work in South Africa.

Advantageous

  • Calypso (Java API, custom extensions, workflows), Murex, Front Arena or similar.
  • Building with AI: LLM APIs, agents, retrieval, prompt design and evaluation.
  • Messaging and integration: SWIFT MT / ISO 20022, FIX, MQ or Kafka, REST.
  • Docker, CI/CD, and a cloud platform (Azure, AWS or Cloudflare).
